Sunday Studio Updates: May, May, What Can I Say?

Free Website Translator

All winter long on the mountain I can’t wait for the eruption of spring.
It’s not that I hate winter, but once Christmas, La Fiaccolata and New Year have come and gone, it’s a bit ho-hum here till April.
And then this happens:

Now THAT makes February shrivel up and die.

The Santa Fiora Studio updates…

My happy place 🙂

I share the studio with fellow jeweller and artist Monika Martellini. I’d forgotten how much of a pleasure and big motivation it is to have a dedicated space for creative work outside of the home, and to work in the company of another creative person.

The workspace is about 90% there. Even up until this week I’ve shuffled and reshuffled furniture to try to conserve room and see which best fits the dynamics of the studio. We also have in mind to keep the far wall free in order to hold small exhibitions. I’m having a two-metre-long work table custom made by local carpenter – and fellow immigrant – Neil Adams (his profile on Lives Creative is upcoming), which will mean removing the big plastic garden nasty we currently have taking up good space.
There are a mill, guillotine and bench clamp that need to be affixed to the current old bench (pictured above), which in turn still needs to have the wooden bench part affixed to the stand.
There is still no effing water connected but let’s leave that subject alone.

It’s looking like a real studio.

Monika has been – and will be this coming week – hard at work for the forthcoming artisan markets, the first of which will be held on the 14th of May in Arcidosso, and then in San Quirico D’Orcia on the 15th.

I’m in two minds about attending markets for a number of reasons. Firstly, I’m not sure that I’ll have enough product to sell two days in a row, at least this time round. Also, market selling teeters between cost and product value – people aren’t always so willing, once you’re outside of a shop, to pay the price that they’d be happy to if the same item was displayed in a shop. Finally, on the 15th I’m heading to Firenze for my yearly soul (and solo) recharge in the gold and silver city, so time is tight. In the meantime, I’ll keep working toward those two dates and hopefully I’ll be more decisive towards the end of the week.

In any case, I did get the convex curlicue ring “Waves” high polished and listed on Etsy. It had been engraved and patinated but I prefer the mirror shine on the band.

I made the “Orbit” pendant from recycled silver. Also listed on Etsy.

“Le Vipere” adjustable ring in the form of a two-headed snake is is almost an ouroboros. View Etsy Listing here.

And I FINALLY finished this copper and silver dome and chain pendant, to be listed shortly.
